This village which is situated at the base of Mount Santubong, some 35km from Kuching and is based on a 14 acre plot, upon the shores of the South China Sea. Its basically a replica akin to the multi-ethnic life from the centuries gone before. In effect, Sarawak Cultural Village is a “living museum” which provides for an introduction to the local life here in Sarawak.

Included within are the Bidayuh longhouse (land dayak), the Iban longhouse (sea dayak), Penan huts, Orang Ulu housing, Melanau housing, Malay housing and also a Chinese styled farmhouse. You can wander around the village enjoying and learning about the various daily activities that would have at one time been commonplace amongst these – the indigenous peoples to Sarawak.

You can enjoy watching the weaving of puak kumbu (a ceremonial cloth woven and worn by the Iban peoples), the production of the blow pipes which were used for hunting wildlife and fellow humans too – in centuries gone by, see the production of various musical instruments (including the very popular sape) and ceramics, and also learn about some of the cooking and food preparation methods used by the various tribes people.

And to round off your time at Sarawak Cultural Village, you will be entertained with a dance by the local tribes people within the village theatre.
